Searching for Truth ?

One of the things I love about being a Christian is that God invites us to use our mind to come to know him and that we are to do this with a free will.

The other thing I love is that He promises us that we don't have to be intelligent, rich or beautiful to be in a relationship with Him.  Instead we just have to honestly seek Him and that even creation (the natural world around us) testifies to God.

BUT being a lover of books I have to say that books and especially the Bible is a great way to get to know God's character, what matters to him and what this means for us if we are indeed God's loved creations.

Below is a carefully selected range of books we think are helpful.

So What's with the Different Bibles?

Oh, if I could have 5 cents for every time I have been asked this question.

And it is a good question.

This is going to be difficult to summarise but let me try.

In terms of deciding which one is right for you you need to know -

The Bible has been translated into English since the 1600's.  So there are various styles of English as it has been spoken through the last 400 years.  Shakespearean - in the 1600's,  through to modern magazine style.  Because it is a translation from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek (along with Latin) there are different ways to translate eg. do you focus on the poetic, do you remain literal or do you take context into account and what about idiom?

You also need to know that the Bible is in many different languages - we have a lot of them in stock.

You can also get Bibles with additional information in them eg Cross Referencing or Commentary (giving social, biblical and historical background), maps, dictionary, and concordance.

And you can choose font size, how pretty you want your book to be, etc.

There are some translations out there that are considered to be dodgy to mainline Christianity.  We do not stock these.

If you have any questions we would love to answer them.
